Wilson Pride Pop Up

WILSON, NORTH CAROLINA

Wilson Pride, established in 2022 in Wilson, is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization helping to celebrate the vibrant LGBTQIA+ communities of Eastern North Carolina. In June the local leaders hold a weekend of celebrating LGBTQIA+ culture, amplifying LGBTQIA+ voices, supporting LGBTQIA+ rights with a festival in the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park. 

As a part of the experience, Design Dimension donates time and resources to design and fabricate a public art pop-up. This participatory exhibit is designed to gather information about visitors, extend the brand and mission of Wilson Pride, and connect community members to foster an inclusive environment. 

Developed with the Wilson Pride board team, we displayed a series of questions to ask visitors who wanted to participate. The exhibits included a “community hug”,  talk tubes, a “share kindness” mailbox wall, a community puzzle and a magic mirror.
