Sampson County Historical Museum: Military and Veterans Museum
CLINTON, NORTH CAROLINA
The Sampson County Military and Veterans Museum shares stories of those who served and their loved ones on the home front. Through stories, written letters, newspapers and artifacts, connections are made throughout the decades to Clinton, NC – its people and community. This small space is designed and curated with personal artifacts, medals, uniforms, model airplanes, and photographs. Most of the objects were donated to the Sampson County Historical Society, others surface as the museum development started.
The museum is organized chronologically with large casework to hold artifacts and exhibit panels. Large wallpaper murals bring the story to life as visitors walk through the space. Adding to the scene setting, a real parachute provided by a retired U.S. Army Golden Knight hangs from the ceiling, allowing visitors to understand the scale of the artifact.
The museum content was developed with Mary-Russell Roberson and the owner team. It was developed around the existing artifacts and designed in a way that the museum can continue accepting donations to incorporate into the small town’s military legacy.
