P.S. Jones Museum of African American Education
WASHINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA
The P.S. Jones Museum of African American Education explores the history of education for the Black community of Beaufort County, from emancipation through integration.
The museum highlights the education challenges, the success despite adversity, and the community that was created. These are stories of passionate, quality, dedicated teachers who cared for their students. Stories of partnerships developed with students in the community to help achieve Black Excellence. Stories of proud alumni who have created a legacy in community and scholarship.
Curated by the P.S. Jones alumni, the museum is a shared space for legacy, memories, artifacts and celebration.
“Because many of our children don’t know about the struggle. They don’t know about the challenges that we faced. They don’t know about what it took for them to get to where they are, because of the shoulders that we stood on.” - Joneice Carol, attended P.S. Jones during integration
