Korean War Memorial at North Carolina Veterans Park
FAYETTEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA
A symbol that activates light and sound to remember 35,000 veterans.
This project pays homage to the 35,000 veterans who gave their lives during the Korean War. A simple dog tag, an item worn by all military personnel of that era, was chosen to represent the fallen warriors of the campaign. The dog tags were hung from the ceiling of the Visitors Center in the shape of a catenary arch. Clerestory lighting makes each dog tag sparkle as a light in the sea of tags.
While this project looks simple, it took weeks to assemble into a gridded format to perfect the installation.
