Chatham Historical Museum

PITTSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA

The walls are filled with artifacts, large-scale photographs, and the rich history of the social life, agriculture, and growing industry of the county over the years.

Design Dimension, Inc. collaborated with the Chatham County Historical Association to build an exhibit on the ground floor of the courthouse in 2010. The museum features a timeline wall with artifacts dating back to the 1800s, an interactive listening wall that features the “voices” of Chatham natives, a military tribute, a schoolhouse featuring the history of education, and a country store facade filled with “items for sale.” 

The Chatham County Courthouse, originally built in 1881, stands proudly in the middle of Pittsboro, NC. The courthouse was reopened in April 2013 after it was damaged from a fire in March 2010. Hobbs Architecture was responsible for the restoration efforts and won multiple awards for the project.
